Polycarbonate (PC)
Polycarbonate is a rigid, impact-resistant plastic commonly used for safety goggles and budget eyewear.
Best For: Safety glasses, industrial work, and very low-budget frames.
Pros:
- Impact Resistance: Extremely difficult to shatter, making it the safest plastic for high-velocity environment
- Cost: Usually the most affordable material.
Cons: Rigid and prone to cracking under pressure rather than bending. It is less comfortable for long-term wear as it doesn't "give" or adapt to the face, and the finish can peel or scratch more easily than acetate.
